The chief executive of LG Display has confirmed that a new thinner display is in mass production as the assembly of the new iPhone 5 hots up.
LG, along with Sharp and Japan Display Inc are expected to all supply a new Retina display for the next-generation iPhone that is widely expected to be unveiled on 12 September before being rolled out on 21 September.
The displays will be the thinnest ever used by Apple and will feature in-touch panels that are made up of tiny touch sensors built within the liquid-crystal display.
"We had some hard times (in developing the new in-cell technology) at first...but it seems those hard times have finally ended," said Han Sang-beom, LG Display's chief executive. "We just began mass production and we don't expect any disruption in supplies."
The iPhone 5’s display is expected to be 30 per cent bigger than previous models, measuring four-inches corner to corner.

Sainsbury's and Rovi team up to take on Netflix, Lovefilm and Now TV

UK supermarket giant Sainsbury's and digital media specialist Rovi have partnered to bring a new movie and TV show streaming service to Britain later this year. The retailer has licensed the Rovi Entertainment Store technology in order to provide video-on-demand titles, many as soon as they hit DVD and Blu-ray.
It's a move that will put Sainsbury's in amongst some of its traditional peers, such as Tesco, which owns BlinkBox, and Dixons Retail, which launched KnowHow Movies in February earlier this year - another service powered by Rovi.
The service will also be going head-to-head with other brands, all vying to be the UK's on-demand platform of choice. Netflix and Lovefilm are now well established, but newcomer Now TV, Sky's foray into the market, has been expanding of late.
It is not known at present whether Sainsbury's will adopt a subscription model, like Netflix, or pay-as-you-play, like KnowHow. Pocket-lint expects the latter, considering that KnowHow also partners with Rovi, but perhaps the retailer will opt to offer the choice of either method of payment, like Now TV.
What we do know is that Sainsbury's will be initially launching the service through its online Sainsbury's Entertainment web portal (for PCs and Macs, therefore). The company plans to expand to Smart TVs, Blu-ray players, smartphones and game consoles in the following months.

iPhone 5 mini dock USB cable photo leaked?

iPhone 5 mini dock USB cable photo leaked?. iPhone, iPhone 5, Apple, Phones 0
Yes it's a cable, but just like the Marks & Spencer adverts used to say, this isn't just a cable, this is reportedly an iPhone 5 cable. An iPhone 5 mini dock USB cable sporting the new also rumoured smaller dock connector, no less.
Okay, so you're right, it is just a cable, but it has turned up online purporting to be the real deal and it's yet another titbit in the latest hubbub of speculation on the yet to be announced iPhone 5.
Oh, and if you are looking to keep up to date with the daily leaks, you should check out our dedicated iPhone 5 homepage.
Still we digress. According to the picture - that's all we have to go on at the moment - the new cable will have a standard USB connector on one end and the new smaller mini dock connector on the other.
Eagle-eyed journalists, who perhaps care more about every nuance of the cable than us, have noted that the length of the cable isn't the same standard length as Apple iPhone cables. That's lead some to believe this is a third-party cable and not from Apple direct. Natch.
If you are really studying the photo you'll also notice a QR code on the USB connector, what this is for isn't known however, it's probably just for stock control.
Rumours about a new dock connector have been floating around the interwebs for sometime now with numerous photos of the connector within the iPhone 5 claiming to be the real deal being shown on various websites. However this is the first time, if true, we've seen the cable that goes with it.
There were also rumours some time ago that the new cable would have a chip inside it to talk to the iPhone to ensure only Apple certified cables worked with the new iPhone 5, however we can't tell whether that is the case here, or will ever be.
We will keep you posted.
